Beneil Dariush’s BJJ Trainer

Bruno Paulista, also known as “Mamute” (mammoth), was the first BJJ instructor for Dariush. Paulista was previously guided by Master Deoclecio Paulo and Alexandre de Souza, the latter leading in Southern Brazil. Under their proficient mentorship, Dariush’s grappling abilities thrived, which was evident in Beneil’s collection of awards. He bagged medals in numerous esteemed jiu jitsu tournaments, ranging from white to brown belt.

After a severe car accident injury that sidelined coach Bruno for a prolonged period, Beneil pursued his MMA journey. He increased his training sessions at Romulo Barral’s school, Gracie Barra Northridge. Known as one of the top jiu jitsu schools in the US, GBN has polished many talented grapplers over the years. Dariush also joined Kings MMA, a training center owned by Rafael Cordeiro, where he earned his black belt in Muay Thai.

In 2012, during the World Pro Championship trials in San Diego, Beneil made a significant impression by winning over three pro-black belts. He was defeated by Kron Gracie, a highly respected figure in the jiu jitsu world, in a disputed decision, proving his place among the top ranks. In July 2012, Dariush received his black belt from coach Bruno Paulista. As Paulista was only a 1st-degree black belt then, Romulo Barral approved and signed the required IBJJF certificates.
